Strong word of mouth (WOM) suggests Hayao Miyazaki's new film could achieve a 3-day opening weekend between $10M and $15M.
This would set an all-time record for original anime, surpassing Suzume's $5M opening weekend, also beating Ghibli films' Ponyo's $3.6M.
"The Boy and The Heron" led with $2.4M. Godzilla Minus One earned $1.2M. Hunger Games and Beyoncé tour film both grossed $1.1M each.
Godzilla Minus One maintained its dominance at the US Box Office, finishing the first full week at #1 grossing $16.9 million in first 7 days.
