‘Wonka’ Sweetens Korean Box Office with Strong Opening

“Wonka” has had a successful debut in Korea, grossing approximately $1.14 million on its opening day with positive word of mouth driving its performance.

“Wonka” debuted in Korea with a strong opening day of approximately $1.14 million (180k tickets sold), dominating 59.1% of the market share.

It has received positive word of mouth, eceiving 9.4 rating on Golden Egg from ticket buyers on CGV, that is a high CinemaScore ‘A’ rating equivalent, and a 8.7 rating on Megabox.

‘Wonka’ at US Box Office:

The film had a successful run in the US, grossing $490k on its 7th Tuesday, with impressive legs and a gross total of $195.7 million.

It’s expected to cross the $200 million mark soon, eyeing a $210 million+ run, making it the first movie to earn more than $200 million in North America since “Oppenheimer” did it on 4th of August 2023.

Worldwide, “Wonka” is expected to reach a total gross of $600 million with its current gross accounting over $552 already.

‘Wonka’ Digital & Streaming Release:

The film is set to release digitally on January 30, with bonus content included. It will also be released on 4k UHD, DVD, and Blu-Ray on February 27, featuring the same special features.

While the streaming release date on Max hasn’t been officially announced, it’s expected to follow the pattern of other Warner Bros. films, potentially streaming on Max around early March 2024, after the DVD release.

Directed by Paul King and starring Timothée Chalamet as Willy Wonka, the prequel details the origins of the famous chocolate factory owner from Roald Dahl’s novel.
