Nielsen’s 2023 Year’s Most Watched Shows/Movies charts reveals that “Suits” breaks viewership records, becoming the most-watched TV show of all time in a single year as “Ted Lasso” shines as the top original series.
In 2023, “Suits” emerged as the most-watched TV show, amassing a record-breaking 57.7 billion minutes of viewership across Netflix and Peacock, surpassing the previous record set by “The Office.”
“Ted Lasso” stood out as the most-watched original series, garnering 16.9 billion minutes on Apple TV+.
Meanwhile, Amazon Prime Video’s “Jack Ryan” and Disney Plus’s “The Mandalorian” also saw huge viewership in 2023.
Children’s content dominated the movie charts in 2023, with “Moana” and “Encanto” leading the charts with 11.6 billion and 9.7 billion minutes watched, respectively, as well as with titles like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” “Elemental,” and “Minions: The Rise of Gru” getting on top positions.
Nielsen reported a 21% increase in streaming viewership in 2023 compared to 2022, with American audiences spent a staggering 21 million years’ worth of time streaming content in 2023.
“Suits” and “Bluey” maintained their positions as the biggest hits in the Acquired Top 10 list.
In the movies category, the absence of a single original title in the overall Top 10 from 2023 was down to Hollywood strikes.
