Rotten Tomatoes Crowns ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Best Film of 2022

The year 2022 saw a seismic shift in the film business, owing primarily to the relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions. Everything Everywhere All at Once holds the record for the most nominations with 11, while The Banshees of Inisherin and All Quiet on the Western Front tied for second with nine nominations each.

Director Joseph Kosinski recently revealed how he convinced Tom Cruise to return for Top Gun: Maverick, which was set over thirty years after the original film. The story followed the reconciliation of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and his best friend’s son, Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw, as they embark on a seemingly impossible mission. While Cruise was intrigued by the technical side of the film, it was the emotional story that ultimately drew him in.

At this time, there has been no mention of a potential third Top Gun movie, as Tom Cruise is currently focused on his involvement in the upcoming Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning. The first installment of Dead Reckoning will be released on July 14th, 2023, followed by Part Two on June 28th, 2024.
