Real Madrid’s Contract Renewal Update: Will Kroos and Modric Stay or Go?

Real Madrid fans around the world are eagerly waiting for updates on the contract renewals of star players like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. Reports suggest that the Spanish giants are keen to keep hold of their top performers, but there are a few question marks hanging over the future of some key squad members, including Spanish players Marco Asensio and Dani Ceballos.

It is worth remembering that Real Madrid have recently been criticised by the Spanish press about the reducing numbers of Spanish national players in Real Madrid’s team despite the club’s origin being in Madrid, Spain.

One player whose future is up in the air, despite his recent surge of form, is the midfielder Dani Ceballos, whose contract also expires in the coming summer of 2023. The Spanish midfielder has struggled to make an impact at the Bernabéu in his second stint with the club.

According to sources close to the club, Real Madrid don’t rate Ceballos highly and are hesitant to offer him a new contract.

Another player whose future is uncertain is Marco Asensio. The young Spaniard has shown glimpses of his potential but has struggled for consistency in recent seasons.

Despite his talent, and supersub impact in many games, it has now become certain that he may not be a regular starter at Real Madrid. This news may prompt the player to consider his options and potentially seek a move to another top club.

Spanish media has reported that Asensio’s agent, Jorge Mendes, has offered the player to Real Madrid’s direct rival Barcelona. Reports are also emerging that current English Premier League table topper, Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, are also fans of player’s versatility and could offer a deal to him to showcase his talent in England.

Real Madrid fans may be disheartened to hear that the expectation is now that Luka Modrić will leave the club at the end of the season as per latest reports from Spanish media.

The Croatian midfielder has been a mainstay at the Bernabéu since 2012, but with his contract set to expire this summer, it seems that he is considering a move away. One potential destination for Modrić could be Al-Nassr, the Saudi Arabian club recently signed by former Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo. It would certainly be an interesting reunion for the two players, who formed a formidable partnership during their time together in Spain

Despite this, some sources have been optimistic that Madrid are said to be preparing a new contract offer for the player, which could keep him at the club for another season.

There is also uncertainty surrounding the future of German midfielder, Toni Kroos. The 33-year-old midfield maestro been a crucial part of the Madrid midfield for the past eight seasons, but there are growing concerns that Kroos wants to retire at the end of this season.

The midfielder has already said his goodbyes to his national side. Sources close to the player have indicated that he has not yet made a decision on his future, leaving fans on tenterhooks as they wait for news on whether he will sign a new contract or look to end his career this coming summer at the highest level.

In the midst of all this uncertainty, it seems that two young Brazilian players, Vinicius and Rodrygo, are establishing themselves as key members of the squad. Madrid have reportedly conveyed to Marco Asensio that the two youngsters are considered better options than him, indicating that the club is looking to build for the future.

Meanwhile, the main forward of Real Madrid squad, Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema’s contract also ends at the end of season 22/23. But it is most likely that Real Madrid and Benzema extend the contract to another year. The contract extension has reportedly already agreed on principal.

As the countdown to the end of the season continues, Real Madrid fans will be keeping a close eye on these contract negotiations, hoping that the club can secure the services of their key players, especially that of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.
