Zlatko Dalić Ponders Luka Modrić’s Last Dance at Euro 2024

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, Croatia national football team manager Zlatko Dalić has addressed the potential farewell of football maestro Luka Modrić after Euro 2024.

Dalić was asked if Euro 2024 will be Luka Modrić’s last dance? and he replied, “We’ll see.”

Dalić emphasized that the Croatian team would await for a final outcome until June.

“We’re going to wait until June, see how some things go and talk to him,” asserted Dalić.

Luka Modrić, a midfield virtuoso and Croatia captain for a while now, has etched his name in football history with his remarkable skills and leadership for both his national team and club football with Real Madrid.

It’s worth noting that Luka extended his Real Madrid contract this year and would need another extension in summer 2024 if he is to continue playing for the Spanish club as well. His starting role at Madrid midfield has somewhat seen a dip due to the arrival of young blood like Tchoumeni, Camavinga, and the rise of Fede Valverde, but still he remains an integral part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team.

Dalić underlined Modrić’s spirit, who is currently 38 and still a top performer at the highest level, stating, “But one thing is clear: he never gives up.”

Croatia are placed in the Group B for the upcoming Euro 2024 to be played in Germany. They are placed with formidable teams; Spain, depending champions Italy, and Albania, many calling it the group of the death.

Luka Modrić has been the heartbeat of Croatian football for years, orchestrating plays, and leading with a finesse that few midfielders in world of football possess. The midfielder, who led Croatia to the World Cup 2018 final, was the first one to break the Ronaldo-Messi dominance in winning the Ballon d’Or year after year.

The prospect of bidding farewell to such an influential figure is bound to raise emotions among fans of Croatia and neutral football lovers as well.
