Bollywood ‘Animal’ Eyes $100 Million Global Box Office Mark – Collections Update

Ranbir Kapoor’s latest Bollywood flick, “Animal”, an Indian action thriller, is poised to list its name as the third Indian film to storm past the $100 million gross mark at the global box office in 2023 to join Shah Rukh Khan’s only starrer ‘Pathaan($128 million)’ and ‘Jawan ($137 million)’.

The movie’s box office performance so far has been nothing short of spectacular, with its second weekend overseas grossing an impressive $16.1 million.

“Animal” has, across over 34 international markets, a cumulative gross currently standing at $84.6 million. Notably, the Indian contribution to this global gross is at over $60.9 million, making the movie one of the biggest success of 2023 at the domestic market.

Animal Box Office Milestones and Projections

The movie is set for more success as projections suggesting it could surpass the $100 million benchmark for Indian movies this year in the upcoming days. The movie has a free domestic run until the arrival of Shah Rukh Khan-led Rajkumar Hirani directed ‘Dunki’ on December 21st, followed by Prabhas starrer ‘Salaar’ a day later.

With a target global run aiming for $120 million to $130 million, “Animal” is on track to become the third biggest hit of the year behind ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’. It will be interesting to see how Shah Rukh Khan’s 3rd release of the year, the social comedy drama ‘Dunki’, and KGF series fame Prashant Neel’s directed ‘Salaar: The Ceasefire’ perform at the box office and could challenge for a spot at the top despite the clash at the global box office.

Animal Indian Box Office Dominance

In its second weekend in India, “Animal” dominated at the box office once again, collecting an impressive ₹87.56 crores (nett in Hindi language alone).

The total collection in India across all languages has reached a formidable ₹433 crores (nett) as of December 11, 2023. The film’s cumulative worldwide gross, standing at nearly ₹717 crores (est. $85 million), makes the film a blockbuster already.

Clocking in at a duration of 3 hours and 21 minutes, “Animal” has earned an ‘A’ rating for its over-the-top content, punctuated by controversial scenes and violent nature. Despite the controversy, the film has now become the highest-grossing Ranbir Kapoor film going past ‘Sanju’, both domestically and on the world stage.

Animal Chasing Pathaan and Jawan Globally

In a head-to-head comparison with other Bollywood biggies of the year 2023 in the first 10 days of release, “Animal” secured the third spot with ₹717.46 crores gross, trailing behind “Jawan” at ₹797.5 crores and “Pathaan” at ₹729 crores, both of which starred Shah Rukh Khan in his comeback year.

Animal, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, stars Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Tripti Dimri and Bobby Deol. It was released in theatres worldwide on December 1, 2023.
