‘A’ rated action-packed Indian thriller ‘Animal’, featuring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead act, has now become the 9th Indian film to join the elite $10M club at the US Box Office.
The film’s second Friday performance secured its place as the second-best of all time for an Indian film, grossing $740k in revenue across a modest 622 theaters with its limited US market release.
The movie saw only a -50.7% drop from its first pure Friday Opening Day, collections surpassing all other Indian releases except the iconic Baahubali 2.
Animal Becomes 7th Highest Indian Grosser in US
Considering only gross collections at the US box office, Animal has gone past over Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt starrer ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ and Aamir Khan and Anushka Sharam’s ‘PK’, securing its place as the 7th highest-grossing Indian film of all time in the US with in just 9 days of its release.
With a current US cumulative of $10M, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga-directed film eyes a $2.3M-$3.3M 2nd 3-day weekend, projecting a 64%-49% drop over its opening weekend.
Animal Chasing Pathaan as 2023 Highest Indian Grosser in US
Animal’s success at the US box office means the movie is ready to challenge Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Pathaan’, the espionage thriller movie directed by Siddharth Anand, also starring Deepika Padukone and John Ibrahim.
Looking at the current trends the movie is doing really well in US theaters and could beat Pathaan if it keeps playing in many theaters, even with tough competition from other movies during the holidays.
Released on January 25th of this year, ‘Pathaan’ went on to gross $17.5M at the US Box Office. ‘Animal’ has 10 more days of run for an Indian movie before SRK-Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ hits US market on 21st December alongside Prabhas-Prashant Neel’s ‘Salaar’.
Animal’s Saturday Surge in India
Back home in India, ‘Animal’ continued its remarkable run, collecting ₹32.47cr [Hindi Net Collection] on the second Saturday alone, bringing the total to an impressive ₹354.84cr Net Collection.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the creative force behind ‘Animal’, revealed that the story had taken root before Ranbir Kapoor’s involvement. Speaking at an event in California, told fans and media about his process of film making, stating “I was just focusing on what was needed to make Animal work. I don’t apply any formulas.”
Animal Beats Gadar 2
Animal’s success reverberates globally as it is set to outgross Sunil Deol’s ‘Gadar 2’s’ lifetime qorldwide gross by the end of its second Sunday, securing its position as the 3rd highest-grossing film of the year, only behind SRK’s ‘Jawan’ and ‘Pathaan’.
The possibility of emerging as the 2nd highest grossing Indian film worldwide adds an extra layer of anticipation. The movie is clear run till the arrival of biggies like ‘Salaar’ and ‘Dunki’ from December 21st.
In just 9 days, Animal’s global box office run sees it claiming the 3rd spot with a cumulative gross of ₹660.89cr (Indian rupee).
The film, produced by Bhushan Kumar, boasts a stellar cast including Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandanna, and Tripti Dimri.
