Insane Haaland Stats Top Manchester Derby Records, Exposing United’s Struggles

Manchester City defeated Manchester United 3-0 in the Manchester derby on Sunday, October 29, 2023.

Erling Haaland scored twice for City, either side of half-time, and Phil Foden added another to give the defending champions a dominant 3-0 victory.

City were too much for a United side who continued to have issues to address across the pitch. Andre Onana made a series of fine saves to keep the scoreline down, but City were never in danger of losing the game.

Haaland’s first goal came from the penalty spot after Rasmus Hojlund was adjudged to have pulled down Rodri in the box. The Norwegian striker then hammered home a header after the break for his 11th goal of the season.

Foden added City’s third goal after Onana denied Haaland a hat-trick. Haaland squared the ball for Foden to tap in a simple finish.

City have now won six of the last eight derbies and Guardiola has mastered this match-up.

Here are some some very interesting stats:

  • Erling Haaland (8 goals+assists in 3 matches) leads the Premier League Manchester derbies goals+assists chart, followed by Ryan Giggs (13 in 29), Eric Cantona (10 in 6), Wayne Rooney (9 in 21), and Sergio Agüero (9 in 13).
  • Pep Guardiola has now won 7 away games against Manchester United, more than any other opponent in his managerial career, except Arsenal (8).
  • Manchester United have lost half of their Premier League games this season (5 out of 10 so far), their worst start to a league campaign since 1986-87.
  • Erling Haaland has scored 47 goals in 45 Premier League games, an astonishing record for a 23-year-old striker.
  • Erling Haaland has scored the same number of goals as Manchester United in the Premier League this season (11 goals). This is a remarkable statistic, given that Haaland has only played in 7 games, while United have played in 10 games.
  • Erling Haaland has the best goals+assists per minute rate in Premier League history, averaging a goal or assist every 64 minutes. Second best is Thierry Henry in 86 minute, and Sergio Aguero with 86 minutes as well. Mohammed Salah has a goal or assist contribution every 93rd minute in EPL.
