Morgan Backs Afghanistan To Upset England | T20 World Cup

England’s World Cup winning captain in 50 overs cricket, Eoin Morgan, has backed Afghanistan to upset the mighty England in their opening game in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup Australia 2022.

Eoin Morgan was asked by Bonnie Raynor of “The Big Time Preview” host on the official T20 World Cup site if Afghanistan are going to cause an upset win against England in Perth Stadium and Morgan quickly replied with a yes.

Raynor was taken aback by the answer of former England player and captain as she called it a “Big Call.”

Morgan was also asked if Rashid Khan, the Afghan leggie, would get Jos Buttler, England’s captain and best batter, out and he replied with a yes again.

Morgan aslo said that he expects England to go with an extra batter against Afghanistan in their opener.

England open their T20 World Cup charge against Afghanistan cricket team in Perth Stadium on Saturday 22 October. England played Australia in the same stadium days ago beating them by 8 runs.

England are touted to be one of the favorites to clinch this year’s T20 title under the leadership of Jos Buttler. They have already suffered a setback in the tournament as their highest wicket taker in 2022, Reece Topley, has been ruled out of the World Cup due to an ankle injury.

England’s Chances at Winning the Cup

Asked about England’s chances at winning the World Cup under Buttler, Morgan said, ” England are an in-form team coming into the World Cup. Jos is only taking over the captaincy having done the voice captaincy for a long period of time. He is an incredibly strong leader. England have been in fantastic form, they turned over World Cup favorites (Australia) in unbelievable fashion.”

Selection Headache for Team England

Liam Livingstone has been exceptional in Perth Stadium for Perth Scorchers in BBL seasons. Harry Brooks has been playing incredibly in recent times. Stokes is an important player in England set-up. England have some tough decisions to make in their middle order selection.

When asked about if England should go with an extra batter, Morgan stated that, “I think England are spoiled for choices when it comes to selection. So whatever is the balance of the side they should go in. They are going to be strong either way.”

“I would play an extra batter (against Afghanistan).” Morgan concluded.
